What a great board planning retreat!! The attendance was exceptional. The participation was wonderful. And the time spent was a great investment. The only disappointment was the failure of ESPN Sports when they failed to cover the greatest horseshoe come back of all times. Patrick Carey and his sidekick simply surged in the last minute to defeat a well balanced team 15 to 14 in the final efforts of the contest.
In all seriousness we did have a fruitful annual planning meeting thanks to the planning of our President-Elect, Tim Baker, our talented staff and our guest discussion leader, Tom Hood, the executive director and CEO of the Maryland Association of CPAs. Tom was full of energy and ideas as he led us through a process of evaluation and targeting future directions, especially as we envision the challenges of 2011. Tom kept us on target, prevented us from majoring on the minors and challenged us to look deeply within as we mapped our future. I am sure that you will hear more about the 2011 Bold Steps from Erin Hardwick and Tim Baker.
Truett Cathy, the founder of Chick-Fil-A, is quoted as saying, “If we get better, our customers will demand that we get bigger.” Based on the vision and energy that I see from the board, chapter representatives and staff at SCACPA, I believe we can only get better. As a result, I believe Truett Cathy is correct. SCACPA will find more and more CPAs that will step forward wanting to engage the challenges that face our profession. Convergence, global efforts, sustainability and each challenge on the plates of CPAs will be addressed proactively as the market drives us to new levels of professionalism that feeds over into the business world.
Thanks to all Association leaders who took part. And thanks to all who will drive this rewarding profession in my beloved state of South Carolina.
