Just around the corner on my calendar I have noted the dates for all of the PIU presentations. The PIUs (Professional Issues Updates) are popular with a number of our sister state CPA associations across the country. As a CPA in this business environment, it is quite easy to get caught up in the busyness of our own challenges and see those Journal of Accountancy and South Carolina CPA Report magazines collect a tad of dust. The AICPA will often send out more email notices than one can find quality time to read. And life just gets busy with other issues that scream for our time and attention.
The PIUs allow us an opportunity for the updates of our profession to come to our own backyards. We can take a half day to get caught up, network with other CPAs, enjoy the day and gather worthy, yet free, CPE. Surely that should appeal to CPAs around the state. Assuredly a “time out” to catch up on the profession should appeal to all CPAs.
While the topics addressed include global (IFRS) and national topics (PCAOB), the issues here in South Carolina are also on the agenda. Past developments (Supreme Court decisions) and future direction (new legislation for CPE as well as sustainability and the CPA’s role) are critical issues to be addressed. Speakers are available for discussion afterwards, along with current SCACPA and chapter officers. We want to keep all of our members fully engaged and appropriately informed.
The President of the AICPA, Barry Melancon, gives an update at all AICPA Council Meetings. He has developed his delivery skills in such a way that this is often the high point of these semi-annual conferences. And our own Erin Hardwick does a fabulous job locally as well.
Please be sure to join us, when we come to your neck of the woods. Bring a curious mind, a professional expectation and help us help you get the most out of your membership to SCACPA. Thank you in advance for your attendance at a PIU and your wonderful support of SCACPA.
